Fractional CISO & Azure Solutions Architecture

Cyber risk and cloud architecture for leaders in the church — and the marketplace.

I work as a virtual CISO and Azure solutions architect for churches, and for the kind of mission-driven businesses — dental practices, manufacturers — led by people who think the same way pastors do: stewardship first, growth second.

Scope of work

01 / Services
Fractional

Virtual CISO

Ongoing security leadership — risk register, policy, vendor review, incident readiness — without the full-time executive salary.

Design & Build

Azure Cloud Solutions Architecture

Infrastructure designed and migrated on Microsoft Azure, sized to your actual traffic and budget, not enterprise defaults.

Church Systems

Planning Center (PCO) Integration

Secure integration, data governance, and access control for Planning Center and the systems your staff and volunteers touch every week.

Optimization

Cost & Architecture Review

An audit of what's already running. Cut what's wasted, harden what's exposed, document what's left.

Who I work with

02 / Audience

The same principles that protect a congregation's data protect a patient's chart or a shop floor's uptime — stewardship, not fear. I work primarily with churches, and with marketplace leaders who run their organizations the same way.

Primary focus

Churches & ministries

  • Protecting donor and member data without a dedicated IT staff
  • Right-sizing security for a volunteer-run environment
  • Planning Center (PCO) integration and data governance
Marketplace leaders

Dental & manufacturing

  • Protecting patient and operational data without over-building
  • Azure migrations that don't balloon in cost six months in
  • A single point of accountability for security, not a committee

Track record

03 / Selected work
Church · PCO

Secured a $2M PCO database

Hardened the giving and member database behind a $2M Planning Center environment against unauthorized access and data loss.

Identity

Centralized hybrid identity

Unified on-prem and cloud identity into one hybrid model, replacing scattered logins with real access governance.

Endpoint

Zero-touch macOS deployment

Designed a just-in-time, autopiloted provisioning system so new Mac devices arrive secured and ready — no manual setup.

AI & Data

AI oversight & PII risk management

Led risk management around AI tool adoption and PII exposure, keeping innovation from outrunning governance.

Monitoring

Built monitoring infrastructure

Stood up centralized monitoring so incidents get caught early, not after the fact.

Cost

Secured an Azure grant

Applied for and helped secure Azure grant funding for a client, cutting cloud costs while expanding capability.

How an engagement runs

04 / Process
01

Discovery

We map what's actually running today and what's actually at risk — not a generic checklist.

02

Roadmap

A prioritized, plain-language plan, ranked by risk and fit to your budget — you'll know exactly what you're paying for and why.

03

Build

Architecture and controls get implemented or overseen, with documentation you actually own.

04

Steward

Ongoing fractional oversight — reviewed on a set cadence, not just when something breaks.

05 / About

Started in electrical engineering. Found a home in leadership and IT.

Aiden Rathburn studied electrical engineering at Arizona State University, and an IT internship during that time set the direction that led here. Aiden is a fractional CISO and Azure solutions architect based in Angola, Indiana, with hands-on experience driving thought leadership and cyber risk management inside churches — including deep experience integrating and securing Planning Center (PCO). Aiden has also led Global Leadership Summit programming across three campuses for three years, giving direct fluency in how churches operate and make decisions — not just how to secure them.

That same stewardship-first approach carries into work with marketplace leaders, drawing on direct experience in dental and manufacturing environments — grounded throughout in a genuine pull toward leadership, IT, thought leadership, and growth.
